It’s never too late to realize the physical, mental and social benefits of exercise:
· Improved muscular strength and endurance
· Increased flexibility
· Improved cardiovascular fitness (heart health)
· Reduced risk of complications from diabetes
· Increased bone density
· Disease prevention
· Improved self-confidence and self-esteem
· Elevated mood, relief of depression
· Less pain and expanded movements
· Increased energy Increased social interaction and new friendships
The social benefits may be even more important than the actual gains seen from the physiological benefits, because people often keep exercising and moving for social reasons. Today, physical fitness is about being active and enjoying it rather than sweat and pain. If you’re just taking the first step, listen to your body and train at a level that feels right for you! Find a sport or an activity that feels good for YOU!
Joining a group exercise class at the YMCA is FUN! You can do it at your own pace, meet new people, be with your community of friends and get fit at the same time. All you need to do is join and tell the instructor you are new to the class or new to fitness. Our instructors and members will welcome you!
